Summer Learning Journey week 2

Week Two: A Period of Change (1870-1950)
Day 1 The Early Years

Activity 1 - St Joseph’s Cathedral

Washington National Cathedral, is a cathedral of the Episcopal Church located in Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States
Construction began on September 29, 1907, when the foundation stone was laid in the presence of President Theodore Roosevelt and a crowd of more than 20,000, and ended 83 years later when the "final finial" was placed in the presence of President George H. W. Bush in 1990.

Activity 2 The Right to Vote

I do not think it is fair that woman can't vote because both boys and girls should be allowed to vote.

Bonus Activity: In Flanders Fields
the poem is  a sad poem because it remembers those who lost their lives in the war, and it is a good poem for the families to remember.

  1. Hi Brennan,

Ruby here from the Summer Learning Journey team!

Activity 1: Great work. I can see that you've found some good information about this cathedral. It took them 83 years to build that cathedral! Why do you think it took them such a long time to build it?

Activity 2: I think women should be able to vote as well! It's important that everyone is allowed to voice their opinion. How does it make you feel knowing that New Zealand was the first country to let women vote? I know it makes me feel proud to be a New Zealander.

Bonus activity: You're right that this poem is very sad. I think it's important though to help us remember those who lost their lives in the war. Reading the poem made me feel honoured that those men sacrificed their lives so that we could have a better future. Did you like the poem?

    Cheers,
    Ruby.
